Why Our Family Photos Matter | Bainbridge Island Family Portrait Photographer | Christina Servin Photographs

Because we are here…and this is now.

I find as I’m raising a little person that time has somehow sped up. There are so many memories I want to hold onto forever. I’m looking beyond the big “firsts” like when my daughter was born or her first words or steps. I want the moments in between that are so sweet they make me stop in my tracks, momentarily hold my breath, and feel my heart flutter with love so big that there are no words.

We Can’t Hold Onto Everything

I’ve also had to come to grips with the sad reality that as much as I might tell myself to remember this moment forever, that I’ll forget some of them… many of them really. Because when you add them all up, it’s a lot to hold onto.

That’s where photos come in. They preserve moments in time, as they were, with you looking as you do now, your children with missing teeth and wearing outfits they insisted on wearing, your spouse and the sweet way they smile at you. It’s all there, and it’s yours to hold onto forever. When time changes you and your family, you have these gifts to look back on.

Lead With Your Heart

As someone who is in the throws of coordinating my own family photoshoot, I realize that sometimes it involves convincing (and possibly bribing— Oh, we actually call that “incentivizing”) family members, selecting outfits, and coordinating schedules but I believe it’s 100% worth it. I wholeheartedly believe it’s worth the undertaking because I know as a momma, that where we are now is where we’re supposed to be, and it’s important to pause every once in a while and record it.

And when the photos come back, I’m going to eagerly display them on my walls to solidify that my house is not just a house. It’s our familiy’s home, and our sacred space for love, acceptance and peace. That’s when I’ll give myself a pat on the back.

“Christina is an absolute joy to work with. She is able to find the perfect picture without waiting for the perfect moment. This is essential when shooting pictures of kids. You can't tell a toddler to tilt your head this way, don't move too much, or wait to smile until the perfect light hits your face just so, you have to take what you can get and make the most of it. She did this and more. She captures the beauty in life as it happens and made it look gorgeous. She is an artist in every way, quick and efficient, and the sweetest person in the world”. -Jenny
