On September 29th, 2018 I had the honor of photographing the Kitsap Humane Society, Animal Krackers annual gala at the Suquamish Clearwater Casino Resort.

The evening was an epic success, raising over $560,000. State Representative, Sherry Appleton, Bainbridge Mayor, Kol Medina, and former Bremerton Mayor Cary Bozeman were spotted enjoying the evening’s festivities.

Animal Krackers Gala began with a cocktail hour that included raffle ticket sales, and silent auction bidding. After, guests gathered in the ballroom for a sit-down dinner. Event sponsor and Peninsula Subaru owner, John Dionas, shared heartwarming stories and photos of his family’s pets. Afterward, emcees and auctioneers Kevin Joyce and Martha Enson welcomed the guests and kicked off the live auction.

Everything from luxurious vacations to Tuscany, Bali and Whistler were big hits, as was bidding to have your pet featured in the 2019 Kitsap Humane Society Calendar.

One of the highlights of the evening was the $50,000 donation made by Cody Magee and David Ferguson of Bremerton, to build and name a new play yard for dogs. Their donation was met with a standing ovation!!

A lively and intensely competitive auction ensued!

After the live auction, Kevin and Martha kicked off the dessert dash, in which an appointed person from each table kicked off their shoes and raced to the dessert tables to get their first pick of the dessert to share with their tablemates.

Prior to the Fund-A-Need paddle call, Dr. Jen Stonequist, KHS director of shelter medicine, spoke to guests about the lifesaving work of Kitsap Humane Society. A beautiful video followed about two very special pups who were saved by the Kitsap Humane Society.  There wasn’t a dry eye in the ballroom.

The paddle call began following the film, and donors’ bid cards went up in droves, raising  $225,350 in 10 minutes!

During his closing remarks, KHS Executive Director Eric Stevens thanked guests for an incredible evening and announced that over the course of 3 1/2 hours, $560,000 was raised to benefit the animals at Kitsap Humane Society!!
