It's not every day that I get a last minute call for a wedding! I was sitting in Starbucks catching up on some reading before a photoshoot when Erin called me. She was flying by the seat of her pants and got straight to the point. She wanted me to photograph her niece's wedding at Kiana Lodge that was a few short weeks away and the day after Thanksgiving. A wedding that she had just begun planning!
I quickly learned that Erin's mom, Phyllis is suffering from cancer and after a rough couple of years as a family and too many untimely passings, Erin was ready to do something joyous, and crazy spontaneous!
So Erin and her sister Lisa got to orchestrating a wedding. The wedding was for Lisa's daughter, Kelsi and her fiancee Billy and their 2 1/2 year old son. The plan was to surprise their mom by flying her in (as well as all her relatives), and announcing that she would be attending Kelsi and Billy's wedding --the next day!
The timing of the wedding couldn't have been better because I wasn't traveling for Thanksgiving, so I accepted the commission on the spot! That very afternoon after speaking with Erin for the first time, I headed over to Kiana Lodge to meet her and the Kiana Lodge event coordinator, Laura Lewis.
I love a good love story, and this one is such a touching tale of a tightly knit family, that is holding on to what is precious and good. When I photograph weddings, I am always quietly looking in to capture the sweet, intimate moments. There was no shortage of these moments, and I felt like my heart was filled up being in their presence. I was the lucky one to be able to capture their day, and I was ever mindful of the fact that this moment in time would forever be a part of their family story. Weddings are like that, but this one was particularly special and meaningful because they are so obviously savoring each moment they have with one another.
Kelsi is a makeup artist, and Billy oversees work at a construction company in Virginia. They have a sweet and gooey two-and-a-half-year-old son who took part in all the wedding day festivities!
This first look is priceless! I just love this set for it's authenticity.
Kelsi and Billy got married on a drizly winter evening so we were chasing light to get some pre-wedding photos. Kiana Lodge has no shortage of lovely views and is every bit as rustic as it is elegant. It's nestled in the woods with impressive fragrant gardens. It's a beautiful place to walk the gardens, and look out on Agate Passage. When it starts really raining, there are tons of covered areas where you can still take in the views and nature.
Kelsi loves a little "bling" and chose a color palette of silver and creams and whites. Flowering Around crafted her gorgeous wedding bouquet. Butcher and Baker whipped up a to die for two tier wedding cake.
Congratulations Kelsi & Billy! I wish you a lifetime of happiness & joy!
